IBM JOINS HANDS WITH RAPIDUS TO ADVANCE CHIPMAKING IN JAPAN
Global IT corporation, International Business Machines (IBM), is partnering with Rapidus, a Japanese-backed semiconductor provider, to support the country’s strides in exploring and producing advanced chips.
The partnership will also see improvement in IBM’s new
two nanometer node technology responsible for communications. The explorations
and manufacture of advanced semiconductor technology will help to make headway
in its resolve. The partnership will also leverage IBM’s influence to achieve
their joint goals.
“This
is a long-desired international collaboration, truly essential for Japan to once again play a
vital role in the semiconductor supply chain. I am fully confident that this
collaboration will pave the way for our goal of contribution to the well-being
of humanity through advanced logic semiconductors produced with technologies
jointly developed with IBM,” says President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
of Rapidus, Atsuyoshi Koikex.
In addition, personnel at Rapidus will be assisted by IBM
Japan and personnel at their Nanotech Complex in Albany, New York. This present
both parties the opportunity to access and use advanced technology in various
procedures. Rapidus says they will guarantee “speed to market and
competitiveness” through strategies that enable efficiency.
“IBM
is honored to be partnering with Rapidus on developing the next generation of
semiconductor technologies and helping to position Japan as a leader in one of
the world's most strategic technology areas…This collaboration is critical to
ensure a geographically balanced global supply chain of advanced
semiconductors, built through a vibrant ecosystem of like-minded companies and
nations,” said Senior Vice President (SVP) and Director of Research at IBM, DarĂo
Gil.
