GILAT WORKS WITH PERUVIAN ANTAMINA MINES TO SETUP E-LEARNING PLATFORMS, ENHANCE CONNECTIVITY IN SAN MARCOS
Satellite technology firm, Gilat, has been handpicked by Antamina, a Peruvian Copper-Zinc mine owned by Teck Resources, to assist in setting up an electronic learning system for schools in the San Marcos municipality.
Estimated to span four years, the finished
project will afford students and teachers in the area access to custom-designed
tutelage and educational resources to facilitate effective schoolwork. They
will also be furnished with laptops and other usable accessories as well as
efficient connectivity and its related services.
Corporate Senior Vice President and General
Manager for Gilat Peru, Arieh Rohrstock, says their participation in this project
reaffirms their commitment to use their “technology and expertise” to close the
gap in technological advancements in rural areas.
“We’re very proud to be
chosen by Antamina to provide a 4-year e-learning project that includes the
implementation and operation of a data center backhauled with terrestrial and
satellite communication. While overseeing the entire project, we will provide communications,
devices, training, and digital education content,” he added.
“Gilat’s technology and
expertise will be used to enable connectivity and e-learning for the benefit of
265 teachers and directors of the 33 primary and secondary educational institutions,
as well as more than 3,000 students in the district of San Marcos,” said Senior
Health and Education Supervisor at Antamina Mining Company, Manuel Ruiz-Herrera.
“Our goal, through
articulated work between Antamina, the District Municipality of San Marcos, and
the Huari Local Educational Management Unit, is to transform the educational
methodology by contributing to the improvement of digital skills of the next generation.”
