BHARTI AIRTEL AND IBM PARTNER OUTDOORS EDGE COMPUTING PLATFORM FOR DATA SECURITY IN INDIA INDUSTRIES
Technology services company, IBM and Indian Telecommunications company, Bharti Airtel, are working together to distribute Airtel’s edge computing platform across Indian cities.
The hybrid platform, announced at Think Mumbai, is said
to assist industries to quickly, yet efficiently create innovative solutions
that prioritizes and values their clients and operations.
With help from the IBM Cloud Satellite and Red Hat
OpenShift, Bharti Airtel’s computing platform will ensure the storage, safety
and security of data as it positively impacts customers and businesses. This,
coupled with the expected rollout of 5G in India, will encourage growth and
value in edged computing, estimating a potential one trillion in economic
impact by 2035.
“As
India gears up to experience 5G, we see a massive opportunity to help
businesses across industries transform how they deliver goods and services,”
said Chief Executive Officer for Enterprise at Airtel Business, Ganesh
Lakshminarayanan.
“We
have the largest network of edge data centers available in India under the Nxtra brand
and we will leverage our work with IBM to help Indian businesses address their
critical business needs with greater efficiency, making it significantly easier
for companies to process workloads where their data resides.”
Also,
Head of IBM Cloud Platform, Howrad Boville, says it is excited about the
partnership with Bharti Airtel in a bid to encourage customers to seize the
opportunities that 5G and edge presents in terms of innovation and data
security.
Moreover,
Maruti Suzuki, a car manufacturing company, has disclosed its intention to come
aboard the platform “to increase accuracy and efficiency for quality
inspections on the factory floor” and “…boost quality control and ensure their
data remains protected at the edge.”
