US AMBASSADOR TO GHANA REITERATES PRIORITY OF DEVELOP NORTHERN SECTOR

The Ambassador of the United States to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has restated the importance of developing the northern sector of the country. This occurred in Tamale in the Northern Region during her first official trip in Ghana.

She was in the company of the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Ghana Mission Director, Kimberly Rosen as the met with partners in peace and security, economic development, media and suchlike.

“Northern Ghana is an absolute priority for the United States, which is why I’m here on my first trip.  From the young people, entrepreneurs, farmers, and civil society and traditional leaders I’ve met, it’s clear this region holds incredible potential.  I am already thinking about my next trip back”, said the Ambassador.

Furthermore, she met with the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, to hold discussions on development in the Northern Region. She also assisted in the official unveiling of the Shea Business Empowerment Program by the Global Shea Alliance and Mastercard Foundation, a program designed to “work with local shea collectors to transform their informal operations into well-structured small businesses and cooperatives that can more readily achieve economies of scale to participate in the global market for shea.

She also met with some representatives of the USAID Women in Agriculture, gave a keynote at the USAID Wiring Artisans graduation, and met with the President of the Savannah Region Queen Mothers Association, Hajia Dr. Veronica Kansawurche Azara Bukari before departing.

Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer assumed her role as United States ambassador to Ghana in May of 2022. Prior to her current role, she has served in high rank positions connected to Malawi, China, Hong Kong, Kenya, Canada, and Zimbabwe.
